for support of political polarization research by the Social Media and Political Participation Lab
The Social Media and Political Participation (SMaPP) Laboratory at New York University is a 4-year old pathbreaking, interdisciplinary lab established to better understand the relationship between social media and politics, the potential for social media data to change the way in which social and political science research is conducted, and how new collaborative research models could be used in the study of politics. With initial pilot funding from the National Science Foundation’s INSPIRE program, SMaPP has successfully demonstrated the efficacy of its research model and saliency of its research products for many constituencies, including journalists, policymakers, and the general public. This grant will support SMaPP’s research at the intersection of social media and political polarization.
