Overview
The Fossil Fuel Reduction project is a multi-funder, multi-year project of the New Venture Fund. Its purpose is to reduce the impacts on people, wildlife, water, soil, and air from the development of unconventional types of oil. The extraction and processing of unconventional oils in North America have high carbon intensity and other environmental and human impacts. To ensure that atmospheric concentrations of carbon not exceed 450 parts per million, about two-thirds of oil reserves should be kept in the ground.

Grants to this Grantee
for the Evergreen Collaborative
This grant supports the Evergreen Collaborative, a new initiative to elevate the urgency and positive opportunities of bold climate action. The collaborative’s work will focus initially on policies to drive new public investment and strong regulatory standards that advance climate solutions. This work is informed by the current economic crisis triggered by COVID-19 pandemic, trade wars over oil, and the failure to invest in American infrastructure and a strong social safety net. (Substrategy: U.S. National Policy)
for the Climate and Clean Energy Equity Fund
The New Venture Fund’s Climate and Clean Energy Equity Fund will support groups in select states and cities working to transition to a clean energy future in ways that promote economic, social, and environmental justice — minimizing risks and maximizing benefits to low-income communities. The Fund’s climate equity framework addresses the need to broaden the base of support for climate action in order to accelerate the pace of change. The Fund will help organizations grow their memberships, strengthen their organizing skills, and build their capacity to advocate for strong clean-energy and climate policies. (Substrategy: U.S. National Policy)
for support of the Communities for Just Schools Fund to fund education organizing
The Communities for Just Schools Fund is a national donor collaborative that brings together the resources of philanthropy with the power of grassroots organizing to ensure that all schools welcome students and nurture their full potential. This grant will be used to fund education organizing; build the capacity of the fund’s grantee partners; and to connect their partners with philanthropy, policy, research, and advocacy communities. (Strategy: K-12 Teaching and Learning)
