New Venture Fund

For Social And Economic Justice Leaders Planning Group Project

Overview
Fiscally sponsored by the New Venture Fund, the Social and Economic Justice Leaders Planning Group convenes leaders of member-based power-building organizations to seed a shared understanding of the future landscape, and nurture the connections, pathways, and experiences needed for effective response. The project is convening a leadership cohort — comprising leaders from member organizations, policy shops, and academia — to develop an organizing practice tooled to the long-term efforts needed to mainstream a post-neoliberal economic paradigm.
About the Grantee
Grants to this Grantee
for the Moving Beyond Oil project
The New Venture Fund’s Moving Beyond Oil project aims to contribute to the reduction of oil use and the transition to clean-energy alternatives in the transportation sector in the United States. This grant will seek to ensure that the country reduces oil production and consumption sufficiently to achieve our Paris 2020 emission reduction targets. In the absence of strong federal leadership, the climate work will shift to several key states, such as Washington, California, New York, New Jersey, Oregon, and Minnesota.
for support of the Collaborative for Student Success
The New Venture Fund provides fiscal sponsorship and management for public interest projects. The fund continues to manage the Collaborative for Student Success, which is a grantmaking initiative that pools foundation resources for support of work at the national, state, and local levels for communications and outreach efforts that sustain demand for effective implementation of the Common Core State Standards and related high-quality assessments. Effective implementation and measurement of the Common Core offers an unprecedented large-scale policy and practice opportunity to deliver a significant portion of deeper learning academic content knowledge and higher-order thinking skills to students.
for the Fossil Fuel Reduction project
The Fossil Fuel Reduction project is a multi-funder, multi-year project of the New Venture Fund. Its purpose is to reduce the impacts on people, wildlife, water, soil, and air from the development of unconventional types of oil. The extraction and processing of unconventional oils in North America have high carbon intensity and other environmental and human impacts. To ensure that atmospheric concentrations of carbon not exceed 450 parts per million, about two-thirds of oil reserves should be kept in the ground.
