Overview
The New America Foundation has long diagnosed a fundamental failing in the American political process—originally in the absence of ideas that don’t fit established partisan agendas, and later in the political system’s failure to engage with long-term priorities. The New America Foundation has incubated key ideas to strengthen the political process, but it has not had a formal program on political reform. This grant would support the Foundation, led by senior fellow Mark Schmitt, to launch a program aimed at understanding the "market for power" in US politics. This work would examine not only the influence of money in politics, but also broader factors influencing the structure of elections and legislative institutions.
