Grants to this Grantee
for the Environmental and Climate Justice Program
The NAACP created the Environmental and Climate Justice Program in recognition that more than 65 percent of African Americans live within 30 miles of a coal plant and that low-income communities and communities of color are disproportionately affected by climate change. The program aims to reduce pollutants that harm community health and cause climate change, as well as to promote public engagement on energy efficiency and clean energy policies and practices. This grant will support the program’s work identifying, training, and supporting clean energy leaders and activists among NAACP’s 2,200 active branches and 300 youth and college groups across the nation.
