Overview
The National Archives Foundation is an independent nonprofit that increases public awareness of the National Archives, inspires a deeper appreciation of our country’s heritage, and encourages citizen engagement in our democracy. Its mission is to develop and support exhibitions, public programs, digital assets, and educational outreach initiatives in partnership with the National Archives. This grant will support research efforts at the National Archives to surface never-before-seen records that will explore the history and ongoing effects of race distinctions in U.S. law, policy, and government institutions. This original, multidisciplinary research effort will be conducted by seven teams of distinguished scholars, postdocs, and graduate students, each with a distinct disciplinary focus that will inform revised descriptions in the Archives online catalog and serve as a catalyst for inclusive museum practices and partnerships.
