Overview
Based in Oakland, Movement Strategy Center is a movement support organization that provides fiscal sponsorship and philanthropic services for leaders and projects that promote interdependence, liberation, and resilience. Art.coop, a fiscally sponsored project of Movement Strategy Center, educates and connects people and entities advancing economic justice initiatives, such as cooperatives, land trusts, time banks, mutual aid networks, and open-source software. Its programs and grants strengthen the solidarity economy movement by supporting artist-led new economy initiatives and democratic ownership and governance models in art and culture. This grant advances the Performing Arts Program’s Artists strategy by supporting new and accessible pathways to economic well-being for local artists and culture bearers.

for Artist Organizing for a Just Transition  
Based in Oakland, Movement Strategy Center is a movement support organization that provides fiscal sponsorship and philanthropic services for leaders and projects that promote interdependence, liberation, and resilience. Its services include strategic thought partnership, capacity building, storytelling and communications, donor advising, fiscal sponsorship, administration of community-advised funds, and foundation-sponsored regranting. Artist Organizing for a Just Transition is a project led by Movement Strategy Center that seeks to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of artists in the San Francisco Bay Area to influence and advance change in the areas most impacting their lives. Through place-based and regional convenings, this project will advance the Performing Arts Program’s Artists strategy by supporting local artists to identify key issues, synthesize shared visions, take advantage of opportunities to lead change efforts, and distribute key insights to the field and its stakeholders.

Justice Funders Network, fiscally sponsored by Movement Strategy Center, is a partner and guide for philanthropy in re-imagining practices that advance a thriving and just world. After eight years of successful programs and network-building in the San Francisco Bay Area, Justice Funders Network became a national organization in 2018, reflecting the professional and leadership development needs across the philanthropic sector. This grant provides institutional membership dues for the Bay Area Justice Funders Network for 2020-2021.
