Overview
Magnificat presents twelve performances in Bay Area churches each year of 17th century classical music and supports the Jubilate Orchestra as it tours the country annually with the same programming. As an orchestra of semi-professional musicians led by cellist and musicologist Warren Stewart for over 20 years, Magnificat has achieved tremendous critical acclaim for its historically informed live performances on period instruments and for its recordings. The organization, with an annual budget of $150,000, has struggled in its recent grant period to expand its core audience of approximately 500 regular patrons, and with a final general support grant can prioritize audience development and donor cultivation as a basis for organizational sustainability. (Final Renewal $30,000/1; 23% of organizational budget).
