Overview
San Francisco’s Magic Theatre is dedicated to the cultivation of new plays, and provides an artistic home for playwrights, in which a full body of work can be imagined, supported, and produced. Magic Theatre produces a four-play season each year — the majority of which are world premieres — and annually serves nearly 10,000 audience members. The organization also presents second and third productions of existing works, creating sustained relationships with playwrights throughout their careers

Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
Magic Theatre is dedicated to developing and producing new plays. Its mission is two-fold: to provide the community with intellectually stimulating, emotionally engaging theater experiences in an intimate setting, and to be a nurturing, fertile creative home for theater artists at every step of their development. The Magic’s principal program is a main stage season of five new plays each year, primarily world premieres, serving 15,000 audience members annually. A new program, Magic Theatre: Oakland, offers a series of free performances in partnership with Laney College Theater Arts. Recovering from a deeply challenging financial, organizational, and artistic period, the Magic seems poised to recapture its reputation for excellence and innovation.
