Overview
The Liberty Hill Foundation supports community-based organizations in underserved communities of Los Angeles County with funding, leadership training, and alliance building. Liberty Hill is also the coordinator of the Los Angeles Collaborative for Environmental Health and Justice, a coalition that has worked for several years to create Green Zones in three Los Angeles area cities that suffer from cumulative pollution impacts. Green Zones are areas characterized by strengthened environmental standards, increased enforcement, and incentives for sustainable economic development to revitalize low income communities of color. The Hewlett Foundations funding would support establishment of three Green Zones, which would lead to reduced pollution, local health and economic benefits, and stronger community organizations that can lend support for broader climate and clean energy policies.
