Overview
Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy’s RePower Los Angeles project has built a coalition of sixty environmental groups, unions, low-income community groups, businesses, and others to advocate for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to adopt and implement an ambitious energy efficiency program. The coalition played a key role in the utility’s 2012 decision to triple its energy efficiency budget. With continued support, the Alliance will push the utility to adopt an even more aggressive energy efficiency goal of cutting demand by 15 percent and adopting financing mechanism to help achieve the goal.

Grants to this Grantee
for support of Reclaim Our Schools LA
The mission of LAANE is to promote a new economic approach for all — based on good jobs, thriving communities, and a healthy environment — by combining research, innovative public policy, and strategic organizing of broad alliances. LAANE has been at the forefront of a progressive movement, transforming conditions in key industries and improving the lives of hundreds of thousands of working families in Southern California. This grant will support the Reclaim Our Schools LA coalition, a fiscally sponsored project of LAANE, which involves over 20 organizations and is committed to leadership development focused on racial justice. The grant will continue the coalition’s efforts at uniting educators and communities to support deeper learning in community schools, ethnic studies courses, and restorative educational practices. for support of the Repower Los Angeles project
With previous support from the Hewlett Foundation, the RePower LA Program built a coalition of forty environmental organizations, unions, neighborhood councils, businesses, and others that successfully persuaded the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to significantly increase its energy efficiency goal. With continued support, the Program will work to ensure that the utility is on track to meet its energy efficiency goals, and expand to include a bigger push for a utility rooftop solar program. This additional energy efficiency and renewable energy will help the utility transition from coal-fired power generation, without having to build new natural gas plants.
for support of the Repower Los Angeles project
Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy’s Repower Los Angeles project has built an advocacy coalition of sixty environmental groups, unions, low-income community groups, businesses, and others to urge the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to adopt and implement an ambitious energy efficiency program. With continued support, the Alliance would push the utility to adopt a goal of cutting energy demand by 15 percent by 2020, an increase from the current goal of 10 percent. This additional energy efficiency will help the utility transition from coal-fired power generation without having to build new natural gas plants.
