KITKA is a professional women's vocal ensemble of nine women dedicated to developing new audiences for music rooted in Eastern European women's vocal traditions. The group strives to expand the boundaries of folk song as a living and evolving expressive art form. In addition to preserving traditional folkloric material, KITKA presents traditional material with new arrangements written by its vocalists, premieres new music by Eastern European and American composers, and commissions new works. KITKA reaches more than 16,000 people a year through its Bay Area concert season, artist residencies, CD productions of its music, K-12 programs, and national and international touring.
