The nonprofit Humboldt Area Foundation and its sister organization, the Wild Rivers Community Foundation, support rural communities and tribes in Northern California and Southern Oregon through programming that advances racial equity, thriving youth and families, healthy ecosystems and environments, and a just economy and economic development. This grant supports the 10-year Klamath Fund, which aims to leverage dam removal on the Klamath River to spark new investment in the restoration and revitalization of tribal and rural communities from the river’s headwaters in Oregon to its mouth in California. (Substrategy: Advance Conservation Protections)
for the Redwood Region Climate and Community Resilience Hub and Tribal Climate Resilience Network
Humboldt Area Foundation serves the residents of Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties in California, and Curry County in Oregon, including the region’s 27 Tribal Nations and historically Indigenous territories. The foundation supports community and tribal engagement around the equitable development of a new port and offshore wind project. Federal climate investments enable both projects, but successful deployment and accrued community benefits require skillful community engagement. This grant will provide technical assistance to give the local community capacity to engage with federal, state, tribal, and private industry interests. The grant will also support a network of 11 local tribes to provide more capacity, flexible funding, and knowledge sharing to advance tribal priorities, access historic federal climate investments, and engage with offshore wind development and related efforts. (Substrategy: U.S. National Policy)
