This grant to the Berkman Center at Harvard University will support two ongoing efforts: (a) engaging top-level practitioners from government, business, academia, and civil society with diverse perspectives on cyber surveillance and privacy issues in rethinking the role of the state in promoting cybersecurity; and (b) exploring the gathering of privately held data and promoting uses of that data for the public good. The grant would also support two new modest efforts: (a) a digital security seminar to improve communication and collaboration between technical and policy groups; and (b) an interdisciplinary workshop that promotes discussions at the intersection of security, psychology, and human behavior.
