Overview
Grantmakers in the Arts (GIA) is North America’s only national association of private and public funders that make grants to artists and arts organizations. GIA has more than 1,300 members, including private, family, community, and corporate foundations; government agencies; and national service organizations. Its programs include an annual conference, a web conference series, thought-leader forums, and publications. This project grant, which aligns with the Performing Arts Program’s Infrastructure goals, support Grantmakers in the Arts in pivoting its strategies and programs to address the "new normal" of arts and culture, post-pandemic and following the nation’s recent attention to systemic racism.

Grantmakers in the Arts has more than 450 members: private, family, community, and corporate foundations; government agencies; and national service organizations. Its programs include an annual conference, a web conference series, thought leader forums, and publications. This grant will support the Hewlett Foundation’s organizational membership in Grantmakers in the Arts for the next three years, through 2025. It advances the Performing Arts Program’s strategic framework by connecting the program to a community of other grantmakers that support arts and culture.

Its programs include a well-regarded annual conference, a web conference series, thought leader forums, and publications. The Arts Education Funder’s Coalition is an affinity group for its members with an interest in policy change that might broaden access to arts education in public schools. This grant to Grantmakers in the Arts, for its Arts Education Funder’s Coalition, advances the Performing Arts Program’s Youth strategy through the Policy and Advocacy substrategy.
