The Gerbode Foundation is dedicated to providing grants in the areas of environment, justice, advancing truth, special initiatives, and the arts. Its Special Awards in the Arts Program supports the creation of new works in dance, theater production, and music composition. Since it began in 2000, the program has contributed to the development of more than 130 new works that demonstrate strong cultural and aesthetic diversity. Each year, commissioning grants are awarded to six organizations that work with artists to develop new works that will premiere in the Bay Area. This grant to the Gerbode Foundation for its Special Awards in the Arts Program aligns with the Performing Arts Program’s Artists strategy.
