The Front Range Economic Strategy Center works to forge alliances between the Colorado labor movement, communities of color, low-income families, and environmental allies. This tie-off grant would support research and organizing work to increase energy efficiency and renewable energy in Denver.

FRESC works to forge alliances between the Colorado labor movement, communities of color, low-income families and environmental allies. The organization works for policies that emphasize equity in the burgeoning green jobs market. Nearly 40 percent of greenhouse gases are produced building, heating, cooling, and powering residential and commercial property. Upgrading Colorado’s aging and inefficient buildings will be revamped with the $80 million set aside by the Department of Energy to fund weatherization. Successful implementation will advance environmental goals while strengthening links between labor and environmental allies. FRESC will work with partners such as Change to Win and the Sierra Club to transform the weatherization industry. With a coordinated effort, thousands will be trained in green retrofit jobs, integrating living-wage jobs principles into the renewable energy economy. This furthers the Hewlett Foundations efforts to strengthen the environmental movement in Western states by building coalitions with other constituencies including labor allies.
