This grant will support Fresno Barrios Unidos to conduct teen pregnancy prevention activities throughout Fresno, which has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in California. Fresno Barrios Unidos is tackling this difficult issue through long-term relationships with schools and policymakers in the community. After many years of advocacy, the organization has been selected by the Fresno Unified School District as its official provider of comprehensive sex education, which it provides to several thousand students a year. It also has programs that work in depth with young people who are at particularly high risk for teen pregnancy.

Fresno Barrios Unidos (FBU) is a small community-based social services agency located in Fresno, California, that receives funding from the Fresno Regional Foundation to provide comprehensive sex education and related teen pregnancy prevention services. This organizational effectiveness grant will support an intensive effort to provide training and support to the organization’s board of directors and conduct an organizational assessment to identify what the organization is doing right and what it needs to improve.
