Overview
Firebird Youth Chinese Orchestra’s mission is to preserve the musical heritage of the traditional Chinese orchestra. The organization offers a five-level training program that serves 130 students, most of whom are American-born Chinese youth aged seven to seventeen. In addition to offering instrumental and ensemble training, Firebird reaches an annual audience of more than 11,000 through community performances, the majority of which are free. With renewed support, Firebird plans to continue to strengthen its curriculum and instruction, increase its teaching staff, perform at least two new works each year, and formalize the responsibilities of its growing volunteer base.

Firebird Youth Chinese Orchestra’s mission is to preserve the musical heritage of the traditional Chinese orchestra. The organization offers a three-level training program that serves 130 students—most of whom are American-born Chinese youth aged seven to seventeen. Firebird believes that playing traditional Chinese music, as well as American and other global music, helps its young students build a bridge between their Chinese and American heritages. In addition to offering instrumental and ensemble training, Firebird reaches an annual audience of more than 11,000 through community performances, the majority of which are free.
