Overview
The European Climate Foundation plays an international leadership role in climate change mitigation. This grant supported the European Climate Foundation’s efforts in facilitating the Climate Action gathering space ("Green Zone") for civil society and non-state actors at COP25 in Madrid, as well as provide support for communications staff. The Green Zone is designed as an open space for dialogue and exchange between academia, scientists, NGOs, the private sector, youth, children, indigenous peoples, and more, to discuss contributions to a carbon neutral and climate resilient planet by 2050. The Green Zone had over 300 activities, including workshops and debates, with a particular focus on youth.

The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was established in early 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help Europe foster the development of a low-carbon society and play an even stronger international leadership role in mitigating climate change. ECF advances policy in the areas of energy, transportation, buildings, low-carbon finance, industry, and energy efficiency. The organization works to develop policy at the local, national, and European Union level. They also support international efforts to mitigate carbon emissions through the United Nations and G20. The European Climate Foundation’s transport program is a critical partner to our zero-emissions transportation strategy. Using a multifaceted approach that advances vehicle standards and charging infrastructure, highlighting the benefits to jobs and health, the foundation’s grantees will work to electrify all road transport on the continent by 2050. This grant will support the European Climate Foundation’s international strategic communications work, in an effort to ensure informed and factual public discourse on the impacts of climate change and possible mitigation and solutions.
