Overview
The European Climate Foundation (ECF) — a "foundation of foundations" — was established in early 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help Europe foster the development of a low-carbon society and play an even stronger international leadership role to mitigate climate change. ECF supports the sustainable development of a low-carbon society in Europe through policy support in the areas of energy, transportation, buildings, low-carbon finance, industry, and energy efficiency. ECF also supports international efforts to mitigate carbon emissions at the United Nations and G20. They work to develop policy at the local, national, and European Union level.

The Green Zone is designed as an open space for dialogue and exchange between academia, scientists, NGOs, the private sector, youth, children, indigenous peoples, and more, to discuss contributions to a carbon neutral and climate resilient planet by 2050.
