Overview
The Electric Drive Coalition is a nonpartisan group of business leaders committed to promoting policies that facilitate the deployment of electric vehicles on a mass scale in order to combat the economic, environmental, and national security dangers caused by our dependence on petroleum. Its membership includes several Fortune 500 companies, including GE, Cisco, Nissan, FedEx, PG&E, and Siemens. These executives promote electrification through a variety of policies and actions, including the creation of electrification "ecosystems," geographic areas in which all of the elements of an electrified transportation system are in operation. This includes preparing the electric grid, deploying smart battery-charging technology, and engaging the key auto manufacturing sectors. The Coalition is the new partner organization to Securing America's Future Energy, a long-time Hewlett Foundation grantee that has worked on reducing the nation's dependence on oil imports by engaging key military and national security advocates.

Grants to this Grantee
for sponsorship of Global Clean Energy Action Forum
The U.S. Department of Energy hosted the first-ever Global Clean Energy Action Forum, a joint convening of the 13th Clean Energy Ministerial and the 7th Mission Innovation Ministerial, in September 2022. As part of the forum’s formal programming, the Electrification Coalition hosted the Electric Vehicles Room, one of 12 sector-specific rooms. The coalition also officially launched the Electric Freight Consortium, a forum for collaboration between the coalition and private-sector partners (shippers, carriers, retailers, and OEMs) on strategies and actions that will accelerate freight electrification at scale. The new consortium is an exclusive space for partners to collaborate, while leveraging the Electrification Coalition’s direct experience in policy action and real-world EV deployment. (Substrategy: Electrification)
for freight electrification
The Electrification Coalition Foundation is advancing electric mobility beyond early adopters and driving economies of scale. This grant will strengthen their U.S. Electric Freight Consortium, which consists of the nation’s most recognized brands involved in the road transport of goods around the country. The goals of the consortium include providing support to industry members, so they can electrify their fleets rapidly, and to use the power of the consortium to highlight critical policy needs for accelerating freight electrification. (Substrategy: Electrification)
for strategic planning
The Electrification Coalition (EC) develops and implements a broad set of strategies to facilitate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles to overcome the economic, public health, and national security challenges that stem from America’s dependence on oil. The organization has grown substantially in terms of staff, resources, and initiatives since the last strategic planning exercise. This grant will allow EC to hire a consultant to assist in developing a three-year strategic plan.
