Overview
Formerly a project of the Council of Chief State School Officers (a Hewlett Foundation grantee), and currently housed within the Education Commission of the States, the Arts Education Partnership is a national coalition of more than 100 arts, education, business, philanthropic, and government organizations that demonstrate and promote the essential role of the arts in the learning and development of every child. In 2012, the Arts Education Partnership launched ArtsEdSearch, the nation’s first online research clearinghouse focused entirely on high-quality research pertaining to learning in and through the arts. Continued support for this project, as well as efforts to connect ArtsEdSearch’s research with policy implementation through the Education Commission of the States’ research center structure, will provide an essential asset to the field of arts education.

Education Commission of the States is an interstate agency that tracks educational policy, translates research, and provides advice and opportunities for state policymakers to learn from one another. One of its programs is the Arts Education Partnership, a coalition of more than 100 organizations dedicated to advancing arts education. The partnership builds education leadership capacity and provides an online repository for high-quality research to promote education systems that embrace learning in and through the arts. This grant will support a research project that connects county offices of education arts education efforts with the goals of California’s Local Control Funding Formula legislation, enacted in 2013. This grant to Education Commission of the States for Arts Education Partnership advances the Performing Arts Program’s Youth strategy, through the Policy and Advocacy substrategy.
