Efforts to use budget process reforms to help break the deadlock in federal budgeting present a major opportunity and a major challenge. Many stakeholder groups are distrustful and resistant to changes that might disadvantage them, even if there could be long-term benefits to the nation and positive impacts on governance. This additional supplemental grant will support continued dissemination of the results of the successful, multi-year project supported by earlier grants to the Convergence Center, which worked with a diverse coalition of organizations to create a credible and broadly supported set of recommendations for budget process reform.

for general operating support
Convergence convenes people and groups with divergent views to build trust, identify solutions, and form alliances for action on critical issues. Currently, Convergence dialogues support America’s recovery from the country’s cascading crises. Convergence bolsters its dialogues’ impact and collaborative problem solving by strengthening the broader field of bridge-building and helping Congress increase its effectiveness and cross-partisan collaboration. In all of its activities, Convergence leverages its unique methodology to drive consensus solutions across political, ideological, sectoral, and other divides, as well as to push back against the tide of toxic polarization.
