Overview
Women in Security and Privacy’s (WISP) has the mission of advancing women to lead the future of privacy and security. The group does this through four main pillars: (a) education: help women identify and achieve the level of education and skills required to succeed in security and privacy positions across multiple industries; (b) mentoring and networking: foster a community for knowledge sharing, collaboration, mentorship, and networking; (c) advancement: support the career advancement of women in security and privacy; and (d) leadership: increase thought leadership by women in security and privacy. As of 2017, women still make up only approximately 11 percent of the cybersecurity industry, and yet there is a massive hiring shortage in cyber security and privacy. This sponsorship grant will support 20 women’s attendance at DEF CON, one of the world’s largest hacker conventions, held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will help them further grow their skills and networks in the field.

for the Just Solutions Collective
The Just Solutions Collective, a fiscally sponsored project of Community Initiatives, broadens and deepens the understanding and implementation of equitable and effective climate policies and programs, at a scale and pace that matches the urgency of the climate crisis. The collective partners with communities disproportionately impacted by climate change to turn their priorities and ideas into policies. It draws from community-created solutions and invests deeply in organizations and coalitions that have demonstrated the vision, strategy, and power to secure and implement climate policies that strengthen their communities’ health, economic security, and resiliency.
