Overview
The ClimateWorks Foundation’s Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Program harnesses the power of philanthropy to restore the climate by advancing strategies to remove carbon from the atmosphere. The program scales carbon dioxide removal approaches, expands communications, and strengthens public awareness and understanding of CDR. A comprehensive approach to CDR is necessary to meet removal targets of 10 gigatons per year by 2050, with an interim goal of removing six gigatons of carbon dioxide by 2030. The IPCC report is clear that maximally ambitious efforts to both mitigate emissions and remove carbon from the atmosphere are needed if the world is to limit warming to 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius. Grants to this Grantee
for the independent Global Stocktake
The independent Global Stocktake (GST) is a research and communications project driven by think tanks and civil society to raise the aspirations of parties to the Paris Agreement. It provides an independent analysis, highlighting the differences between what countries have pledged, what they are actually doing, and what needs to be done to meet the goal of keeping global temperature increases well below 2 C, as set under the Paris treaty. The GST will be one input when countries submit their national determined commitments to meet the Paris goals in 2025. (Substrategy: Multilateral)
for the global industrial decarbonization program
This grant will support ClimateWorks Foundation’s Industry Program’s efforts to reduce industrial GHG emissions to zero in high-income countries by 2050 and in middle- and lower-income countries by 2060. To achieve this goal, all the key components of the transition must be fully commercialized and ready to be rapidly scaled up by 2030, including the technologies and the social and economic systems to support clean production, demand reduction, and the transition away from fossil-based production practices. This grant will enable ClimateWorks to work with partners globally to set the policy, commercial, technological, and social foundations for deep decarbonization from 2030, through initial steps to reduce industrial GHG emissions during the 2020s. (Substrategy: Industry)
