Overview
Green Climate Finance Illinois (GCFI), a project of the Climate Jobs National Resource Center, will help implement environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards within pension funds and align fund investments with the Paris Climate goals. This work covers eleven cities, seven states, and three funds. Outputs include the implementation of an annual carbon disclosure impact analysis and a companion investment scorecard; the codification of an investment strategy with the investment consultants to incorporate ESG, including climate change; a resolution to use ESG and climate principles in asset manager selection; and a pathway to scale nationally and internationally. Climate Jobs provides strategic, technical, and communications support to a growing number of state-based, labor-led climate advocacy coalitions. Climate Jobs has successfully accelerated the deployment of renewable technologies, such as offshore wind, while also structuring policies to ensure economic benefits reach workers. The organization is working to support the successful deployment of federal climate investments from the perspective of supporting economic growth and decarbonization. In 2022, Climate Jobs is working at the state level to implement federal spending bills to accelerate deployment of zero-carbon technologies and cultivate new champions for decarbonization among workers and unions. Climate Jobs has had success accelerating deployment of renewable technologies, such as offshore wind, while also structuring policies to ensure economic benefits reach workers.
