Citoyens Actifs pour la Justice Sociale

For Youth Advocacy For Effective And Transparent Sharing Of Natural Resource Revenues

Overview
Citoyens Actifs pour la Justice Sociale (CAJUST) is a network bringing together various youth organizations and movements from Senegalese civil society that work on civic issues and the promotion of human rights. CAJUST’s vision is based on the conviction that an active civic awareness of young people and women is one of the most appropriate ways to guarantee social justice for all. Its mission is to build active citizenship in order to combat all forms of injustice and social inequality through promotion of effective and qualitative participation of young people and women in decision-making bodies; contribution to democratic and transparent governance of natural resources and public goods; and promotion of respect for human rights and protection of vulnerable groups. With this grant, CAJUST will work on enhancing an effective distribution of revenues from the mining sector by requiring both the government and operating companies to comply with their obligations for the benefit of communities and local development. CAJUST seeks also to foster transparency mechanisms in oil and gas revenue management through advocacy for publication of data relating to oil and gas revenues. Because the implementation of this project involves much advocacy and campaigning, CAJUST will use part of this grant to strengthen the capacities of their members to implement effective and efficient public facing, media and social media advocacy and campaigning.
