Overview
Over the last quarter century, the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund, established by the San Francisco Chronicle, has distributed more than $90 million in emergency assistance to tens of thousands of people in need. The Fund provides one-time, temporary assistance to people experiencing an unexpected crisis (lack of housing, food, or employment, for example), helping thousands of families annually in the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. This collaboration between the public and private sectors draws support from the media, local foundations, more than 100 social service agencies, food banks, the business community, and individuals.

The Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund, established by the San Francisco Chronicle, has a mission of creating stability for individuals and families facing an unexpected crisis by providing temporary assistance for housing, critical needs, and access to food. Since its founding in 1986, it has distributed more than $150 million to move its mission forward and help prevent homelessness and hunger throughout the nine counties of the Bay Area. Over the years, the Season of Sharing Fund has become a leading provider of emergency financial assistance for residents in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties. Over 160,000 households have received assistance since its inception.
