Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund

The Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund (SOSF) is a charitable organization established by the San Francisco Chronicle to address the housing, food and one-time critical needs of elderly and disabled individuals and low-income families with dependent children residing in the nine-county Bay Area. It is a collaboration between the public and private sector including the media, local foundations, more than 100 social service agencies, food banks, the business community and individuals. This renewal will continue to help SOSF service disadvantaged communities by supporting hundreds of people with one-time critical needs, designed to keep people on their feet. Since it's creation in 1986, SOSF has raised more than $30M and has become the Bay Area's largest private source of direct aid for people in need of emergency financial assistance. 2006-2007 was a record year, raising $5M. Of that amount, 85% of funds are distributed to social service agencies to support critical family needs and housing assistance, and 15% supports 9 Bay Area Food Banks.
