Overview
San Jose Children’s Musical Theater (SJCMT) is one of the nation’s largest theatrical performing and training organizations for youth. SJCMT mounts ten productions annually with performers aged six to twenty, reaching 40,000 audience members. Every child who auditions is cast, resulting in 1,000 young performers taking the stage at San Jose’s historic Montgomery Theater. Each production has two full casts in order to make this possible, and no child is ever turned away due to lack of funds. SJCMT also reaches 10,000 schoolchildren each year with its Student Matinee Program, a year-round conservatory aligned with the state’s Visual and Performing Arts standards, and intensive summer sessions. With a robust cash reserve and a prudent fiscal approach, SJCMT has recently appointed a new Executive Director after a series of leadership changes over the past five years.
