Overview
Formed in 1978 and incorporated in 1982, world-renowned San Francisco Chanticleer is a full-time professional all-male vocal ensemble directed by Music Director Joseph Jennings. The Grammy winning a capella group performs a repertoire that encompasses Gregorian chant, jazz, new music, gospel, folk, and choral classics. With twelve full time professional singers on stage, an administrative staff of seven and world wide audiences of over 50,000 each year, Chanticleer, with a budget of nearly $2 million, has maintained its artistic and organizational reputation for excellence over the course of 18 years of Hewlett Foundation support. Chanticleer’s education programs reach 6,000 Bay Area youth through in-school programs and the Chanticleer Youth Choral Festival. With ongoing support Chanticleer will sustain core artistic (including very extensive touring) and educational programs while the board undertakes a $6 million fundraising campaign to transform the existing $400,000 endowment into a meaningful source of ongoing revenue. (Renewal, $300,000/3; 4% of organization budget)
