for fostering clean fuel technologies for light and heavy duty vehicles to improve air quality
The Centro de Transporte Sustentable de Mexico is part of the global network of Centers for Sustainable Transport (EMBARQ) of the World Resources Institute whose mission is to support the implementation of projects and policies related to mobility, public transport, urban development, climate change and air quality. The goal of this grant is to develop and disseminate technical information to support decision making for improving transportation fuel quality and to reduce vehicle pollution in Mexico.
for promoting high quality public transportation in Mexico's largest Cities
Centro de Transporte Sustentable de México is the Environment Program's anchor grantee in Mexico for public transportation systems. Renewal support will help CTS expand existing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems in several of Mexico's largest cities, implement new BRT systems in Mexico's fastest growing cities, and promote a proposal that substantially increases federal investment in public transportation. The purpose of this proposal is to reduce Mexico's CO2 emissions, improve energy efficiency and reduce air pollution in the urban transport sector by completely integrating sustainable public transport systems in flagship cities. Today, both Mexico City and the country's second largest city, Guadalajara, are in the process of implementing these next-generation concepts. CTS will be a key technical advisor to both cities.
