Grants to this Grantee
for strengthening the transparency and accountability of public expenditures on education in India
Although the Indian government spends more than $10 billion annually to deliver primary education to its citizens, these resources are not producing good learning outcomes. By studying the ways in which education resources are allocated and managed, the Accountability Initiative at the Centre for Policy Research has helped unearth clues as to why these investments are not yielding results. This grant would enable the Center to continue tracking education expenditure management at the district and school level, to generate an evidence-based debate on the need for reform, and to experiment with ways of building greater school-level accountability through local school management committees.
for strategic planning for the PAISA project
The PAISA (Planning, Allocations and Expenditures, Institutions: Studies in Accountability) program at the Center for Policy Research studies the ways in which education resources are allocated and managed in order to determine how resources can better be used. This grant would enable the Center to refine its strategy for this area of work so that it can deepen its impact on improving the quality of elementary education in India.
