Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

For Support Of The Global Initiative For Fiscal Transparency

Overview
The Global Initiative for Fiscal Transparency (GIFT) is a network working to improve fiscal transparency, citizen engagement, and accountability for the use of public funds. Led by the International Budget Partnership in collaboration with the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the governments of Brazil and the Philippines, GIFT develops norms and standards, identifies incentives to ensure compliance with these standards, and provides advice and technical assistance to governments that are applying the standards. In collaboration with the Open Government Partnership, GIFT is also co-leading a new working group focused on promoting greater fiscal openness in developing countries.

for general operating support
The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities is one of the nation’s premier think tanks working at the federal and state levels on fiscal policy and public programs that affect low- and moderate-income families and individuals. The Center conducts nonpartisan research and analysis to help inform public debates and ensure that policy makers and the public consider the needs of those communities whose voices are too often unheard. The Center also examines the short- and long-term impacts of proposed policies on the health of the economy and the soundness of federal and state budgets. This grant would continue the Foundation’s support, which began in 2004.
