Grants to this Grantee
for a program to support the development and implementation of sound data governance policies
The Center for Global Development (CGD) is an independent, nonpartisan research institution that works to reduce global poverty and improve lives through economic research that drives better policy and practice by the world’s top decision makers. With this grant, CGD will develop a program of work to (a) conduct research on the opportunities and challenges that the world’s growing dependence on digital services poses for low- and middle- income countries (LMICs) and the costs and benefits of different regulatory approaches; (b) organize a working group that will make recommendations on how to implement sound data governance policies that meet the priorities, needs, and capacities of LMICs; and (c) work with a research organization in sub-Saharan Africa to design a thematic workstream aimed at providing local policymakers with the expertise needed to implement good data governance.
