Overview
The Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) is an anchor grantee in the Philanthropy Program’s Knowledge for Better Philanthropy strategy. CEP’s fundamental tenets are highly aligned to the goals of the Effective Philanthropy Group overall, namely that measuring results and providing useful data lead to improved foundation performance (and thus better impact). CEP has worked with over 200 foundations, including most large U.S. funders. We know from our evaluation of the Knowledge strategy that conferences play an important role in knowledge dissemination. In 2015, CEP’s bi-annual conference of foundation leaders will be held in San Francisco, providing a unique opportunity for us to provided targeted conference support.

Grants to this Grantee
for YouthTruth’s Civic Readiness Project
YouthTruth is a national survey project, operated by the Center for Effective Philanthropy, that harnesses student and stakeholder feedback to help educators and educational leaders make better decisions, leading to better experiences and outcomes for students. Today, YouthTruth has surveyed over 2.9 million students and over 700,000 staff and family members across 39 states. This grant will support YouthTruth’s Civic Readiness Project, which seeks to learn from young people’s perceptions to inform philanthropic and school system partners’ efforts to prepare all youth to be civically ready members of society and to support the growth of a healthy, inclusive, multiracial democracy. The project will investigate which groups of youth feel civically empowered – or not – and perceptions of how school experiences promote – or impede – civic engagement. Today, YouthTruth has surveyed over 2.9 million students and over 700,000 staff and family members across 39 states. With this grant, YouthTruth will continue to expand its reach to schools and districts across the country as it amplifies the voices of students and families and increases public understanding of the experiences of students and stakeholders in public schools.
