The Center for Effective Philanthropy is a leading philanthropic infrastructure organization focused on developing data and insight for funders so they can better define, assess, and improve their effectiveness and thus their intended impact. The center’s work includes original research, knowledge sharing, and advisory services. Knowledge sharing includes research publications, webinars, articles, presentations to funders, and a biennial conference. More than 200 U.S. foundations, including Hewlett and many of the largest, have used the center’s suite of flagship assessment tools, which includes the Grantee, Staff, and Donor Perception Reports. This grant will support the center’s current strategic planning process.

Grants to this Grantee
for YouthTruth’s Civic Readiness Project
YouthTruth is a national survey project, operated by the Center for Effective Philanthropy, that harnesses student and stakeholder feedback to help educators and educational leaders make better decisions, leading to better experiences and outcomes for students. Today, YouthTruth has surveyed over 2.9 million students and over 700,000 staff and family members across 39 states. This grant will support YouthTruth’s Civic Readiness Project, which seeks to learn from young people’s perceptions to inform philanthropic and school system partners’ efforts to prepare all youth to be civically ready members of society and to support the growth of a healthy, inclusive, multiracial democracy. The project will investigate which groups of youth feel civically empowered – or not – and perceptions of how school experiences promote – or impede – civic engagement.
