Overview
A grant to the Center for Economic and Foreign Policy Studies would allow the Center to continue to generate strategic thinking and elite debate about Turkeys role in the global discussion of nuclear energy and nuclear policy. The only such project operating in Turkey, the Center could significantly influence the countrys debate on nuclear security as its government considers acquiring nuclear power capabilities. The project would build on the organization's pioneering work over the past two years by continuing to keep the Turkish government informed about nuclear security and energy issues. This is especially important given the ripple effects of Turkey's policies across the increasingly unstable region.

This grant would allow the Center for Economic and Foreign Policy Studies to generate strategic thinking and elite debate about Turkeys role in the global discussion of nuclear energy and nuclear policy. The only such project operating in Turkey, it could significantly influence the countrys debate on nuclear security just as its government considers acquiring nuclear power capabilities. The project would include (1) development of three teams of policy experts who will explore the economic impacts of Turkeys attaining nuclear power, regulatory challenges, and Turkeys role in the global nuclear order; (2) dissemination of five research papers on these subjects to members of the Turkish government and civil society; and (3) two expert seminars and one conference to stimulate elite discourse on Turkeys ambitions in the nuclear energy and policy spheres.
