Overview
When a foundation conducts due diligence on a nonprofit organization, one of the standard questions is: "Who else supports this organization?" The Foundation Center proposes a project that would develop a Web service for foundations to obtain co-funding information directly from the Center’s databases without leaving their own grants management software. This would improve both the speed and convenience with which grant history information can be obtained, while also relieving a burden that currently falls on grant applicants. The tool would also provide access to the Center’s data for more strategic purposes, including identification of potential funding partners and information sharing among collaborators.

for support of the Foundation Funding for U.S. Democracy website and database
In 2013, the Hewlett Foundation, alongside seven other foundation funding partners, partnered with the Foundation Center, now part of Candid, to develop an online, interactive data visualization tool to map “who is funding whom to do what” in the field of U.S. democracy. The tool is intended to provide a clearer picture of what issue areas and organizations other foundations are supporting, thereby helping to improve philanthropic investment and coordination in this growing field. The beta version was launched in June 2014. This grant will support ongoing maintenance, upgrades, and updates of the tool through 2023.
