Overview
The Campaign Legal Center is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., that defends and protects U.S. democracy in the areas of campaign finance and voting rights — protecting the fundamental right of all Americans to participate in the political process. Led by Trevor Potter, a former commissioner and chair of the Federal Election Commission, the center is the only organization in this field that works through the entire lifecycle of campaign finance and voting rights laws—from conceptualizing and drafting laws, to seeking their robust application and enforcement, and ultimately to defending those laws in the courts. This organizational effectiveness grant will enable the Center's leadership to work together and develop as a team as they sharpen the organization's focus and improve its capacity.

for general operating support
The Campaign Legal Center is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., that defends and protects our nation’s democracy. Since its founding in 2002, the center’s mission has been to protect and strengthen the U.S. democratic process across all levels of government through litigation, policy analysis, and public education. The center is adamantly nonpartisan, holding candidates and government officials accountable regardless of political affiliation. In courtrooms, Congress, and state houses, in the media and on the ground, the center fights for the fundamental right of all Americans to participate in the political process.
for support in hiring an executive director for a new campaign finance reform entity
The Campaign Legal Center is a nonpartisan organization working in the areas of campaign finance and elections, political communication and government ethics. The Center pursues its work through both the legislative and administrative processes and through litigation. Led by Trevor Potter, a former Federal Election Commissioner and Chair, and General Counsel to Senator John McCain, the Center has strong credibility amongst conservative leaders. Recently Mr. Potter and others have recognized the need for a new organization, with strong conservative leadership and support, to advocate for campaign finance reforms aligned with conservative values. This grant would support the Center as it searches for a strong candidate to lead this emerging organization.

The Center is led by Trevor Potter, a former Federal Election Commissioner and Chair, and General Counsel to Senator John McCain, and pursues its work through the legislative and administrative processes and through litigation. This grant will provide general operating support over the next three years to bolster the organization's capacity to carry out existing programs and to respond to new opportunities as they arise.
