The Campaign Legal Center is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works in the areas of campaign finance and elections, political communication and government ethics. The Center is led by Trevor Potter, a former Federal Election Commissioner and Chair, and General Counsel to Senator John McCain, and pursues its work through the legislative and administrative processes and through litigation. It is spearheading the defense of campaign finance laws already on the books as well as participating in efforts to improve and expand those laws. This grant will provide general operating support over the next three years to bolster the organization's capacity to carry out existing programs and to respond to new opportunities as they arise.

for general operating support
The Campaign Legal Center is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., that defends and protects our nation’s democracy in the areas of campaign finance and voting rights — protecting the fundamental right of all Americans to participate in the political process. Led by Trevor Potter, a former commissioner and chair of the Federal Election Commission, the center is the only organization in this field that works through the entire lifecycle of campaign finance and voting rights laws—from conceptualizing and drafting laws, to seeking their robust application and enforcement, and ultimately to defending those laws–while challenging others that undermine democracy–in the courts. This grant will provide general operating support over the next three years to bolster the organization’s capacity to carry out existing programs and to respond to new opportunities as they arise.
