Overview
Cal Shakespeare Theatre is a nationally recognized regional theater that reaches 65,000 people each year. It does this through seasonal productions at its outdoor amphitheater in Orinda and year-round programs at schools and community-based venues in the East Bay and San Francisco. Beginning in 2003, the organization has developed a suite of programs and partnerships that aims to make concrete connections between the work of classical writers and communities that often do not see themselves reflected in these works. An Organizational Effectiveness grant would support Cal Shakes to bring in outside expertise to help evolve its efforts to make its theatre more ethnically and culturally diverse in order to ensure its continued relevance and success.
