Overview
California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) represents the fifty-eight county superintendents and county offices of education staff that provide leadership and service to all of California’s 1,000 school districts and 6.5 million students. CCSESA’s statewide arts education initiative, funded since its inception in 2006 by the Hewlett Foundation, works to strengthen and expand arts education in California public schools as part of a comprehensive core curriculum. Its regional lead model has gained traction throughout the state as an effective way to build learning communities and provide professional development and curriculum tools to educators. Renewed support would enable CCSESA to continue building leadership capacity within its networks of county offices of education in order to implement arts in the curriculum, with regional leads in each of California’s eleven regions. CCSESA also intends to keep providing assessment and programmatic support to schools and increasing public awareness of the status of arts education at every level through advocacy efforts, partnership building, and strategic communications.
