Overview
California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) is a Hewlett arts education grantee that represents the 58 county superintendents and county offices of education staff who provide leadership and service to all of California’s 1,000 school districts and 6.5 million students. CCSESA’s statewide arts education initiative, funded by the Hewlett Foundation since its inception in 2006, works to strengthen and expand arts education in California public schools as part of a comprehensive core curriculum. Its county and regional lead model has gained traction throughout the state as an effective way to build learning communities and provide professional development and curriculum tools to educators. As one of four lead agencies of CREATE CA, a statewide arts education initiative, CCSESA is partnering with the California Arts Council, a state agency governed by an 11-member policy-setting council appointed by the Governor and the Legislature to advance the state through the expansion of the arts. The project will deliver professional development training and resources to teachers across the state. Support for this new initiative, Creativity at the Core, will deepen teaching and learning through the arts aligned with the new Common Core State Standards, and impact millions of K-12 students.
