For two weeks each summer, the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music celebrates new works by living composers, bringing more than 10,000 people to its series of concerts, open rehearsals, and educational programs. In addition, the organization produces the annual Church Street Fair, which features the work of Santa Cruz County performing and visual artists and draws more than 14,000 people. During the grant period, the festival will continue its core programming, pursue new strategies to grow local audiences, and build on the excitement surrounding new artistic director Cristian Macelaru’s inaugural 2017 season.
for general operating support
The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music is renowned for presenting contemporary works for orchestra, featuring preeminent and emerging composers from around the world to 25,000 audience members annually. Each August, the two-week festival in Santa Cruz gives voice to works that are rarely more than two years old, while providing professional development workshops for young composers, opening rehearsals to the public and offering education programming for meaningful community engagement. During the grant period, the organization would continue to expand its audience base, develop and implement a new strategic plan, hire a new development director and increase community support, and deepen board engagement.
