BUILD

BUILD is a national nonprofit dedicated to helping youth of color from under-resourced communities develop an entrepreneurial mindset while discovering their hidden potential. Focusing on activating youth voices, BUILD recently launched a Youth Advisory Panel to serve as their in-house design squad. With this grant, BUILD will convene the Youth Advisory Panel to co-create and co-design digital programming, including OER for grades 6-12. This project will support flexible learning experiences that empower youth by gathering their perspectives to create curricula and products responsive to their interests. Businesses United in Investing, Lending and Development (BUILD) was founded in 1999 and has the mission of using entrepreneurship to ignite the potential of youth from under-resourced communities and propel them to high school, college, and ultimate career success. By empowering students to develop and run their own small businesses, BUILD supplements traditional classroom instruction with real-world business experiences and critical skill-building. It was born in the heart of Silicon Valley from a big idea — that entrepreneurship presents a powerful opportunity for youth to understand the relevance of their education to their futures. BUILD will continue its efforts in the four regions across the country it serves — the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Washington, D.C., and New York City.
