Overview
The Hutchins Center at Brookings and The Woodrow Wilson Center will update and expand dissemination of Budget Hero, an interactive, online game that helps citizens and policymakers better understand difficult federal budget choices. The three-year project will span the policy debates of the 2016 election cycle and the 115th Congress and help build consensus about complex budget issues. Strictly nonpartisan in approach, Budget Hero uses Congressional Budget Office baselines and data to allow players to test various solutions and see the short- and long-term budget impact. Enhanced design, mobile versions, expanded content, and wider outreach are features of the proposed Budget Hero version 3.0.

Grants to this Grantee
for support of Lawfare's congressional coverage
Lawfare is a blog dedicated to a nonideological debate about hard national security choices. Lawfare has cultivated a wide and technically savvy audience and effectively expanded their collective interest in areas beyond traditional security issues. Through this grant, Brookings will hire a fellow-level scholar to elevate Lawfare’s level of discourse on Congress. With expanded capacity and in coordination with existing in-house expertise on congressional process and procedure, Lawfare will consider the responsibilities, failures, and priorities of Congress through this nonpartisan forum. Such coverage will incorporate a deep understanding of congressional policymaking and a normative view of what the institution is and should be.
