Overview
Founded in 2007 by former Senate majority leaders Howard Baker, Tom Daschle, Bob Dole, and George Mitchell, the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) is a D.C.–based think tank devoted to promoting bipartisanship. BPC supports deliberations by former elected and appointed officials, business and labor leaders, and academics and advocates. The organization is currently focused on health care, energy, national and homeland security, governance, transportation, and the economy. This grant would allow BPC to expand its democracy work, launched in 2010, beyond campaign finance and election administration to include the creation of a Commission on Political Reform. The Commission would develop practical recommendations to address current problems of political polarization with a focus on (1) changes to our electoral system; (2) congressional reform; and (3) removing obstacles to public service.
