The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) is the nation’s oldest and largest progressive bar association and was the first one in the US to be racially integrated. Though they do important work across their organization, in this particular moment, several of their activities are especially important to rebuilding from racial tension. Chapter members have provided legal support and know-your rights resources to immigrants and other vulnerable groups as well as pro-bono legal help for victims of hate crimes. Further, they serve as an organizing body for lawyers and law students who support anti-hate efforts. This grant will be used to do this work in the Bay Area by supporting local chapters in Fresno, San Francisco, and Sacramento in these efforts.
